Culture, Tourism and Archives Department

Objectives

• The main objective of his department is given bellow
• To promote Culture activities and to protect and preserve the culture heritage of Balochistan
• To acquire historically significant official records, books, and rare manuscripts for preserving and making them available to a wider public.
• To re-structure departmental activities pertaining to acquisition, preservation, and reproduction in line with the current trends and best practices in archival records management.
• To promote tourism of Balochistan in worldwide and to provide services regarding tourism.

Secretariat

• Administrative control of attached wings.
• Implement decisions of the Federal. Provincial Government.
• Supervise the Federal/ Provincial projects.
• Develops and implements policies of the Government.

Directorate of Archives

The Department comprises the following:

• Acquisition/ collection of important archival, cultural and educational resources from various department and district headquarters.
• Management and reservation of Archival record of the Government.
• Preserved and managed record is offered for research, administration and planning purpose.
• Acquisition and preservation of private collections of historical importance, such as important tribal families papers.
• Acquisition and preservation of oral archives, i.e. collection of sound recording of speeches, interviews of eminent provincial leader.
• Microfilming of sensitive records of Government and other private records of national importance.
• Acquisition and maintenance of Government printed material/ publication, newspapers and periodicals.

Archeological Museum

• To collect, acquire, excavate of archeological and historical relics.
• To preserve, exhibit, interpret and project the cultural heritage of the province.

Idara-e-Saqafat/ Art Council

• To promote cultural activities in the province.
• To highlight Balochistan’s district cultural heritage by arranging exhibition, dances, music and folksongs.
• To train in folk arts, fine arts, and calligraphy.
• To setup Balochistan’s pavilion on the occasion like Lok Mela at Islamabad and provincial float 23rd March, Day parade.
• To conduct national and foreign cultural troupes during their visits to balochistan.
• To organize stage dramas, and musical shows.

Tourism Cell

• Promotes and develop tourism in Balochistan.
• Develops tourism related projects.
• Develops tourism facilities such as Hotels, Rest Houses and Restaurants.
• To set up tourist information centers to provide relevant in formation.

library

• Maintains/ Preserves Books.
• Maintains a hall of study.
• Keeps useful books for students.
• To facilitate readers/ researcher/ students by providing books, magazine, newspapers and reading materials with a view to promoting the culture of knowledge.
• To exhibit books on special occasions.

Services For General Public

• Public Library’s all over Balochistan.
• Cultural Hall in major district.
• To access Archival data and to help them preserve Archival data.
• Registration of Hotel, Restaurant, Travel agent and Tourist guide.
• Helping Artist both financial and physically.

Culture Directorate

• To promote Culture activities and to protect and preserve the culture heritage of Balochistan
• To collect folk material and organizing scattered talent.
• Affording patronage and protection to Art which have been neglected for several decade and dying out.
• Propagate and project the distinct cultural image of the region by arranging exhibitions, puppet shows, folk performances of music and dance.
• Training people of the Balochistan in the folk arts and other fine arts.

Achievements

• Fine arts classes like Planting, Calligraphy, Music, Photography and Theater workshop.
• Drama, Features, Muscial Show, exhibitions and such other programmes are arranged from time to time which prominently depict art, culture etc of Balochistan.
• Undertake and comply with assignments given by Provincial and Federal Government from time to time including celebration of multifarious festivals in Quetta and other parts of the country. Besides the Programme enumerated in various Cultural pacts signed between the Government of Pakistan and other foreign Governments to be implemented in coordination with the Ministry of Culture and National Council of Arts which includes sending and receiving Cultural delegations and exchanging exhibition materials.

Tourism Directorate

• To promote and develop Tourism in Balochistan.
• To establish the requisite infrastructure for tourism promotion.
• To develop Tourism related commercial projects
• To develop Tourist facilities, Hotels, Rest Houses and Restaurants.
• To set up Tourist information centers to provide relevant information.
• To develop package tours to various resorts.
• To organize Cultural shows and programs.
• Registration of Hotels and Restaurants.
• Licensing of Hotels & Restaurants
• Licensing of Traveling Agencies

Achievements

The following hotels, & restaurants and traveling agencies have been registered and an amount of Rs: 1773650/- have been recovered and deposited in the Government receipts for the period July 2011 to March 2012 (9 months):-

Archaeology Directorate

• To regulate and exercise the powers vested under Balochistan Cultural heritage preservation Act, 2009.
• To administer and control the affairs of exploration, excavation, preservation, conservation and protection of historical, cultural, anthropological, archaeological, religious and natural sites/monuments, tombs, fortification, graveyards and other antiquities under Balochistan Antiquities Act-2012.
• To conduct surveys/investigation and researches regarding Archaeological sites and other antiquities in Balochistan and publish it through Research Journals, Books, Booklets, Brochures etc: in print media and disseminate it through electronic media, if it is deemed necessary.
• To coordinate and collaborate with the universities, colleges and other educational institutions and organizations of the country and abroad having interest in the preservation, protection, exploration and conducting research on the archaeological sites / monuments and other antiquities and regulate these activities..
• To regulate trade and business of the Archaeological objects, relics and other objects.
