About Department
The Province of Balochistan came into being on 1st July, 1970 and consequently besides other essential Departments in the Provincial Government, the Law Department was also established in the same year. Later, in November, 2004 through an amendment in the Balochistan Government Rules of Business 1976 its nomenclature was changed into Law & Parliamentary Affairs Department.
Law Departments deal with the legislative matters including taking action for promulgation of Ordinances, moving bills and laying the ordinances before the Provincial Assembly for enactment, pursuing litigation cases before courts on behalf of Government.
Head of the Department
The Law & Parliamentary Affairs Department has been endeavoring to provide legal opinion, defending Government in litigations, over sighting legal matters of Administrative Departments and overseeing human rights issues. It has also been mandated with vetting, drafting and codification of Bills, Legislations, Ordinances, Rules, Regulations and Notifications under Rule 17sub-rule (2) (a) of rule 17 part “A” and sub rule (8) of Rule 22, schedule I of the Balochistan Government Rules of Business, 2012.
Law Department also provides opinion to Government for adherence to the Constitution, Acts, Rules and regulations and Rules of Business 2012, from time to time. It also ensures good governance by providing guidelines to the Government as and when required.
Mission
To provide sound legal infrastructure to get easy access to justice and conducive environment to achieve decent standard of life for people significantly through good governance, equitable dispensation of justice and protection of human rights.
Vision
Our vision is to provide a long way in establishing the direction of all the Administrative Department working under the umbrella of Provincial Government, through uniform, equal and just legal structures. The idea also includes providing legal opinions, to give the draft the shape of legal instruments, to codify the laws and to make appear the law officers before the courts of law on behalf of the Provincial Government.
Departmental Functions

Services for General Public
Law Department’s core services for the general public include the publications of all the legal instruments and make those publications available for the purpose of information, assistance and implementation. It coordinates with the Provincial and Federal Departments/Institutions in matters relating to implementation of foreign treaties to make the public at large to receive equal benefits available to similarly placed public of any other nation. Law Department also put the agreements/MOUs between the private entities and Provincial Government in correct legal form in order to save the interests of the public at large.
