Balochistan cabinet agrees on ensuring best utilization of huge natural resources
Cabinet approves provision of land on partnership basis to Ministry of Defence Production for construction of shipyard in Gwadar; directs to all departments and institutions to take steps for promotion of IT and telecommunication

The Balochistan cabinet has agreed upon to ensure best utilization of the province’s immense natural resources for gaining self-sufficiency. We can put the province on the path of self-reliance by ensuring best use of the immense resources the province is blessed with.

It was the general consensus in the lengthy meeting of the provincial cabinet that met with the Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan in the chair the other day.

The cabinet had reviewed various important matters included in the agenda of meeting that lasted over three hours.

Various matters were presented before the cabinet for discussion and approval.

There was also a consensus on that the economic activities could be promoted by providing jobs to the people at small level and thus making them prosper, which is otherwise the vision of Chief Minister and top priority of the provincial government too. The cabinet was also briefed by the Chairman Akhuwat Foundation, Dr. Amjad Saqib about the provision of interest free loans to the small business entrepreneurs in the province for promotion of the economic activities at the small level. He told that the people are being provided interest free loans in collaboration with the provincial governments under the Foundation. So far we have given loans of around Rs. 100 billion to some 3.5 million people under the self employment programme launched by the Foundation, he maintained. Moreover, over 10,000 persons have also been given the loans in some seven districts of Balochistan, adding Dr. Amjad Saqib mentioned.

The cabinet appreciated the programme of loans and as such gave approval to initiate the similar programme in the province. The programme would be launched by the Akhuwat Foundation in collaboration with the provincial government costing Rs. 1.6 billion, the cabinet.

The cabinet also approved the joint venture with the Khadi craft development company and Ministry of Industries and Production for promotion of skill development in the province.

Moreover, the cabinet also approved to provide land on the partnership basis to the Ministry of Defence Production for construction of shipyard in Gwadar.

It was decided to from a committee headed by the Chief Secretary Balochistan in this regard, which would negotiate with the concerned Ministry for share of the province on equity basis.

It was informed to the meeting that 10,000-15,000 jobs would be created with launch of the shipyard project.

Under the Corporate Social Sector Responsibility, the Ministry of Defence Production would start the projects of human resource center, hospital and other social projects in Gwadar.

The cabinet directed to all the departments and institutions to take necessary steps for promotion of information and telecommunication in all the sectors.

The digitalization of the properties in the urban areas was also approved by the cabinet in its Thursday’s meeting. The project would be started from Quetta with bringing the properties in the tax net.
